Since its opening in 2009, Abaco Lodge has become a favorite of fishermen looking for great comfort, but in a “no frills” package. Excellent cuisine, spacious single-occupancy rooms with waterfront porches, open bar, satellite TV, a fire pit and a dipping pool all welcome anglers back from a hard day of fishing.
Maverick HPXS skiffs captained by some of the Island’s top guides rounds out the Abaco Lodge experience. You’ll fish the famed Marls; 40 square miles of bonefish nirvana. A true target rich environment that will keep both novice and experienced anglers happy.
The Marls is best known for its prolific numbers of bonefish, but don’t let that fool you. There are plenty of opportunities to cast to fish exceeding 5 lbs. during the course of a day’s fishing. All fishing is done from the bow of a skiff due to the soft bottom that gives the area its name.
Single accommodations are the rule rather than the exception, and visiting fishermen do not pay a premium for the privacy afforded by it. All rooms have queen beds, air-conditioning and feature en-suite bathrooms and waterfront sunset patio views.
Like most bonefish destinations, 8-weight outfits with floating lines are the norm, while 7-weights are a bit more sporting. Basic bonefish patterns like the Gotcha and Spawning Shrimp reign supreme w/ tippets and leaders tapered to 12 lbs. Outfits are available for those not wanting to tote gear.
Fly commercially to Marsh Harbour where you will be met by a lodge representative and transferred to the Lodge; a 10 minute drive. American Airlines, Delta, Silver Airlines and Bahamas Air fly to Marsh Harbour. Private air charters from Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Beach can also be arranged by Frontiers.
The town of Marsh Harbour, to the north, offers many activities and attractions: diving, snorkeling, golfing, shopping, sailing, bird watching and kayaking.

Hurricane Irma’s track to the south and west of most of the Bahamas was a blessing this time around. The common theme in post-Irma reports from the lodges Frontiers represents is that there are debris to be picked up and landscaping work to be done, but no major impacts otherwise. All are scheduled to reopen on schedule this fall.
Here’s what each lodge has reported to us:
