Islas Secas - Fishing

Species – Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo

The peak season for billfish is December through April, with the prime months being January, February and March. Primarily, the winter months have been the best for billfish. For blue and black marlin, live bait such as small tuna or larger size bonita have been used. Also, large tuna become abundant during March and April. Inshore fishing includes cubera snapper, amberjack, grouper, dogtooth snapper and a number of others.

Islas Secas operates a 34-ft Sea Vee center console fishing boat which can comfortably accommodate one to four anglers. All conventional tackle is provided but fly fishermen must take their own gear.  Upgrade to a 58-ft Donzi is available ($3,000 per day).

Panama strictly adheres to "catch and release" practices in order to preserve the fishery. All billfish, such as marlin and sailfish, are protected and the crew will make every effort to safely and successfully release these species immediately after photos are taken. Tuna, snapper, dorado (mahi mahi), wahoo, snook, etc., may be harvested.
