Stella Maris - Fishing

Bonefish on Long Island are plentiful and average 2-3 pounds while trophy size fish of 10 pounds or more are not uncommon. Spend a day on the water with one of the Bahamas best guides, Docky Smith of Bonafide Bonefishing. Docky, an independent and certified guide, is also a lifelong resident of Long Island and knows the waters intimately. He uses top-of-the-line Maverick and Hells Bay flats skiffs to pole you over miles of firm flats. A day with Docky will be an educational and productive fishing experience. Docky and his staff can typically accommodate up to four bonefishers, however additional guides can be arranged for a maximum of 8 anglers.

For those that prefer wade fishing or fishing on their own, Long Island has no shortage of firm white sand flats that are an easy walk or bicycle ride from Stella Maris.

Other Fishing Options

Offshore and reef anglers enjoy fishing from Stella Maris year round. Long Island is situated near the North Equatorial Current which originates in the Canary Islands and washes the shores of Long Island. This current is known for transporting huge schools of blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish, rainbow runners, yellow fin tuna, black fin tuna, dolphin and wahoo to the region. Depending on the time of year, any of these pelagic species can be swimming these fertile waters.
