For those anglers looking for a unique fishery that provides world-class opportunities at large migratory tarpon AND one of the best baby tarpon fisheries anywhere, your search is over. Although there are other species to be found in the waters of Holbox, it is the tarpon that is the true star here. Every year large schools of adult fish congregate in the open waters just off the island. Each morning at sunrise your guide will be waiting to take you on a short panga ride to the most productive waters, where you will search the calm surface for rolling schools of tarpon. Once you have spotted a school, your guide will maneuver the boat to intercept the fish and allow you to present your fly. If the fish manage to resist, your guide will allow them to pass and then repeat the process, giving you multiple shots. It is possible to see several schools and hundreds of fish each day. The large adult fish can be found from May-September.
Holbox also offers extremely productive baby tarpon fishing for anglers who wish to take advantage of the faster pace and acrobatic battle of these "fun" sized fish. Ranging between 5 and 25 pounds, the baby tarpon of Holbox are relaxed and happy to take a well-presented fly. Your guide will pole you along beautiful turtle grass flats or inside the mangrove lagoon as you sight fish for the young giants that cruise and roll just like the big boys.
