This remarkable 16,000-acre sporting estate is home to some of the largest trophy red stag on the planet, and it also harbors a large population of the highly prized sika deer. The property has been a favored hunting and fishing area for both ancient Maori tribes and, since 1877, the English settlers. Today the trout fishing and hunting on Poronui Ranch are recognized as world class.

Poronui's landscape is very diverse and scenic. Crystal-clear water tumbles from the mountains through forests of beech and native ferns, twisting its way along alpine meadows on the valley floor. When the first frosts call winter into the mountains, hunting is a tradition at Poronui Ranch. The entire property is ideal habitat for waterfowl, game birds and deer.
