Dreaming of an Alaskan family adventure trip, but unsure where to start? Planning a family trip can be a daunting task, so we'll cut to the chase. The Lodge at Whale Pass is one of Southeast Alaska's premier multi-sport lodges. Nestled in a quiet bay along the Inside Passage, this is the perfect getaway for friends, families, couples, corporate groups, and of course, those who love to fish. The lodge operates from June to September annually. Southeast Alaska is a temperate rainforest with weather conditions very similar to Seattle, Washington. These mild Alaska temperatures often range from 45° to upwards of 75° F during peak fishing season.
The Lodge at Whale Pass specializes in Alaskan adventures that combine outstanding saltwater and freshwater fishing along with a broad list of leisure activities the entire family can enjoy. Tell us your family's interests, and the lodge will create an unforgettable trip.
What makes Whale Pass truly special? You decide your daily adventure. Fish all day? Got you covered. Morning bike ride and Sea Kayaking in the afternoon? Absolutely! With no set itinerary, your Alaskan experience is yours to create. From whale watching and wildlife viewing to hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, caving, fishing, and glacier viewing, the possibilities are endless! The adventure activities are plentiful in choice and can be enjoyed singly or as a group.
Prince of Wales Island offers pristine, untouched nature, perfect for observing wildlife like whales, bears, seals, otters, blacktail deer, and a multitude of bird species in their natural habitat. In addition to the natural wonders, guests may choose fully guided activities like saltwater fishing from covered and heated cuddy cabin cruisers or choose to wade fish one of the productive streams on the island for trout and salmon. This makes costly and time-consuming fly-outs unnecessary, although they may be arranged if desired.
The fishing is predominantly saltwater trolling and bottom fishing that anyone can be successful in participating despite skill level. Fish for Halibut, rockfish, lingcod, and seasonal salmon in the saltwater around the lodge. They have inland river options for wade fishing for salmon and trout as well.
The lodge boasts 23 fishable lakes, rivers, and streams all within a short, scenic drive via a fleet of large SUVs. Freshwater fishing access is primarily done via walking and wading. Fly and spin fishing are both offered.
The main lodge has guest suites for singles, doubles, and families, all with private bathrooms. The rooms are decorated in a semi-rustic style yet offer all the modern comforts you would expect in a more urban setting. The dining area and a great room are just steps away from each room. Both areas capture a grand view of the bay, where you can watch the eagles soar or glimpse the local harbor seals.
