Located on the internationally acclaimed Tsiu (sigh-you) River, Alaska Expedition Lodge allows guests to sight-cast to thousands of chrome-bright aggressive silver salmon fresh out of the surf from the Gulf of Alaska. Time tested, well-built facilities and dependable equipment along with knowledgeable, experienced staff relieves you of any safety concerns in this immense wild country. The silver run on the Tsiu is a strong, long-lasting run that occurs from early August-October.
Silvers fight their way in from the crashing surf and travel up-river a short distance to many different deep water holding areas. The river has a sand and gravel bottom and is not particularly swift, so wading is simple and safe. The lack of trees or brush near the river makes casting easy.
The 65-foot, log main lodge features solid teak dining tables and chairs. Comfortable private cabins await guests when they return from the river. Electric heaters warm the cabin and a private bathroom ensures a hot refreshing shower after fishing. Wide boardwalks connect the cabins to the lodge.
8- or 9-wt. fly-rods are preferred with high-capacity reels (to accommodate those long rocket runs!) and medium-weight casting and spinning gear. We will provide you with a complete gear list including the type of flies and lures that will bring you the most success.
From Anchorage charter flights with TransNorthern Aviation are available, an airline well-known for safety, reliability and high standards in air transportation. The scenic flight over Prince William Sound and surrounding mountains is extraordinary in the Super DC-3 aircraft. The firm, sandy beach next to the Tsiu River provides a perfect landing strip for the plane, and is an exciting finale after the festive atmosphere of the flight. This is truly an Alaska bush experience! If you are a duck hunter, they offer a super combo salmon/duck adventure after September 1 at no extra cost.
$4,950 per person for a 7-day fishing or combination fishing/duck hunting stay after Sept. 1. The season runs from August to mid-October. Air charter fee is not included and is handled separately. The normal fee for round-trip service to the lodge from Anchorage is $650.
