Alto Parana Lodge offers fly fishers and conventional fishing guests unmatched, warm-water Argentine species diversity from a traditional northern Argentinean estancia. The estancia is located in Corrientes province on the legendary Parana River; the border of Argentina and Paraguay. In this tropical province, the Parana flows controlled well below the Yacyreta dam. The river is rich with species along high flora-shrouded banks, vast sand bars, islands that create deltas, and smaller "riachos" or braids.
Custom bay-boats with casting deck, 4-strokes and poling platforms chauffer anglers through this diverse tropical fishery. Fly and conventional anglers cast to pira pita targeting insects in the jungle canopy, monster pacu sipping floating fruit and flowers and river-hardened ambush-minded dorado.
Beneath immense shade trees, Alto Parana is a refurbished Spanish influence estancia sleeping 4 fishermen in single air-conditioned suites. A swimming pool, tile-floored common areas and open bar offer relaxation in the mid-day heat and for sunset appetizers accompanied by select Argentine wines.
6 wt. fly rods for Pira Pita and 8 wt. for Dorado/Pacu w/ floating lines and tropical sink-tips lines for heavier rods. Knotable wire leader is a must. Tropical weight flats clothing and plenty of sun protection is necessary. A full gear list is provided upon booking.
Both conventional and fly tackle are available at the Alto Parana Lodge.
Regular daily flights to Posadas, 45 minutes away, make the lodge easily accessible and ideal for a combination trip with Pira Lodge, only a 3.5-hour drive. The lodge has good internet and phone access.
*The fishing program accepts just 4 anglers each week, however, Alto Parana can comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests for intact parties of anglers and non-anglers. While an amazing dorado fishery, the Parana should be considered a multi-species river and all are targeted daily to round out the experience.
7-night/6-day high-season fishing package: $5,950/angler. Alto entertains any length of stay: $850 per night/angler.
Fishing licenses: $50/person. Tackle rental: $25/day Regional transfer costs apply and spring/fall and/or non-angler rates are available.
