This expansive Estancia is situated southeast of San Martin de los Andes in the awe-inspiring northern Patagonian Mountains. Due to the challenging terrain, travel is done on horseback in order to access the furthest wilds where the hunt continues on foot. The camp’s horses are well-trained and mountain savvy. Prior equestrian experience is not mandatory. Due to the remote and inaccessible nature of this region, large numbers of red stag exist, and impressive trophies are harvested. This program caters to the hearty stag hunter, offering simple comforts and grand scenery.
Inside one of the finest high country stag territories in Argentine Patagonia, AO Mountain Camp offers three unique base camps affording access to rugged mountains, dense forests, green glades, and vast valleys. Hunters travel on horseback and make their final stalk on foot.
The three base camps offer guests large, comfortable single-wall tent accommodations. A camp cook prepares hearty, regional meals, while an Argentine gaucho tends to horses and camp provisions. Tents are strategically located near streams and are well-prepared for inclement weather.
Necessities include climate appropriate clothing, high-quality binoculars, sturdy hiking boots, kneepads, and leather gloves for stalking. We'll send a complete gear list upon booking your reservation.
Fly commercially to Buenos Aires with connecting service to Bariloche or San Martin. Frontiers can quote daily commercial flights and attractive fares. Internal flight time is approximately two hours. Patagonia hunters spend the first night at Lago Hermoso Lodge in comfort, enjoying a chef-prepared dinner with time to prepare gear for the morning departure. The following morning, you'll head out on horseback to one of the base camps and prepare to hunt the following day. AO Camp hunts and mountain facilities are somewhat primitive. There are limited archery opportunities.
Six-night/five-day hunt is $10,840 per person and includes a trophy red stag up to 320” SCI, March–April season. Capacity is four hunters per week. Additional trophies and cull animals may be available. Trophy shipping fees are not included. Prices are subject to change.
