This small, uninhabited coral island is located 570 nautical miles SW of the main island of Mahe. Its shallow lagoon has one small entrance leading to the ocean that is surrounded by sheer drop-offs teeming with fish. Big GT’s rule the island but bonefish, permit, barracuda, milkfish, bluefin trevally and triggerfish are always ready to attack your fly. Bluewater fly fishing is measured in yards, not miles from the inlet. Yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, sailfish and marlin will test the sturdiest of tackle. Astove Island-a remarkable fly fishing experience!
Renowned as one of the premier GT fisheries in the world, guests wade the lagoon’s white sand flats, the reef flats and the channel leading to the ocean or give bluewater fly fishing a try. Access to the various fishing spots is by boat or by land via ATV. High quality wading boots are vital.
Located in the completely renovated Coral House, the lodge has 6 single occupancy bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms providing standard amenities. The Coral House lodge also features a dining room, bar and sitting area. There is air-conditioning in all parts of this comfortable, intimate lodge.
As a general rule, an 8- or 9-wt. outfit for bonefish and permit, 10-wt. for triggerfish and a 12-wt. for the GT’s and bluewater. A complete gear list will be sent upon confirmation of your trip. Frontiers can provide expert advice on finding the right gear for your trip. You may borrow equipment.
