Located on the working Estancia Bella Vista, Bella Sofia Lodge features private access to 40+ miles of the Rio Gallegos and 14 miles of the Gallegos Chico spring creek. The Gallegos is a unique river making anglers work hard for their fish making the reward sweeter. It offers large sea runs using multiple two-handed and single-handed methods and bulky resident trout that can easily reach eight pounds. The Gallegos Chico offers substantial resident brown trout and a unique sight-fishing dry fly experience. The program is guided, managed, and catered by a seasoned Argentine team.
The fishing beats are divided in the 40 miles of river. Classic, big and deep pools become the focus during low water conditions. The long and fast runs are very productive during the periods in which the migratory fish enter the system. The Chico spring creek affords big dry flies with a 4-5 wt’s.
Six (6) anglers weekly are accommodated in the renovated main house of the Estancia in 4 single and one double ensuite bedroom. A solarium and drying room accompany cozy fireplace-warmed living and dining room. Local greenhouse-grown vegetables accompany traditional asados and fine Argentine wines.
The Gallegos will require two-handed 7-9 wt rods of 12-15 feet with Scandi lines for stealth and quiet. Single and switch rods are used to fish dry flies or skate and calm evenings. For the Chico a 4-5 wt fast action rod is recommended, with floating line for big and medium size dry flies.
The Lodge is accessed by Rio Gallegos Airport and is approximately a 1-hour drive. Full lodge Wi-Fi with 24-hour electricity. Four single and one double room with en-suite bath available. Wader drying and changing room. Environment-friendly and sustainable business model focusing on renewable energy. Locally sourced cuisine.
