Blanda (salmon, trout, char)

A unique river that offers multiple species and some big salmon

The Blanda has it all! Gin-clear, typical Icelandic water at the top, a milky main river with four beats, and a tributary up a stunning valley. This river offers up some of the largest salmon in Iceland, sea-run and freshwater char, brown trout and sea trout! Mainly fished with double-handed rods and skated flies this river has no problem getting the fish to rise. It never lacks space and has miles of river to explore. It is more physically challenging as it has some canyons and deep wading. Why not try for a Blanda 'slam' while you are there...salmon, sea trout, brown trout and char in a day!

Fishing

One of the prettiest valleys in Iceland with spectacular birdlife. The majority of the river is easy both physically and from a casting point of view but you will need to wade deep in some areas and the river is milky so hard to see through. The canyons are more demanding though totally stunning.

Accommodation

Set by the middle river, the lodge has 12 spacious rooms for the eight rods so it is possible to avoid sharing with your rod-sharer. It is a large, interior-designed lodge which offers plenty of comfort, superb food and a great staff.

Gear

For Svarta - singlehanded rods or switch or a 9ft 6, 7, 8 or 9 weight is best depending on the water. Blanda - 12-14ft double-handed rods. Bring a single-handed rod (5 or 6 wt) too just incase you decide to fish for trout or char. For Upper Blanda - single-handed rods only 9 - 10ft 7, 8 or 9 wt.

Trip Specifics

Come hoping for some bigger fish, ready to enjoy a variety of water and species, stunning surroundings and a comfortable, spacious lodge with friendly staff. Located in the north of Iceland, Blanda is only 25 minutes from Asum airstrip (light aircraft charter only) and close to small town of Blondus. Keflavik Airport is 4 hours away so an overnight both ends of your fishing is required unless you can catch the early flight in to Iceland. Alternatively you can fly into Reykjavik Domestic airport by private jet, 3 hrs away.

Rates

Every trip to Iceland is different with a varying number of days fishing, possibly in different areas staying in different lodges and with or without non-fishing extensions. Therefore, every trip is by quotation once planned based on your choices and preferences as well as choice of accommodation.
