Boen Gård is situated on the coast of Southern Norway's archipelago, on the banks of the Tovdal River. A traditional park encircles the beautiful main house which was built in 1813. The property has a history dated back to the 1600s and at one stage Queen Sophie Amalie of Denmark and Norway owned the property. The current owner is the third generation of his family to live on the property. As well as excellent salmon fishing, recently renovated buildings overlooking the river offer extremely comfortable accommodation and guests are able to enjoy superb food based on local, seasonal produce.
The Tovdal river offers 1.2kms of double-banked salmon fishing. The lower boundary of the fishing is close to the tidal limit and the falls at the top of the beat, with many rapids and pools in between, means superb fly water. The fishing is perfect for up to four rods and guides are available.
Boen Gård offer a variety of accommodation. For fishing parties we recommend Treskelåven, which is a newly renovated building overlooking the river. There are six en-suite rooms as well as a spacious sitting area with fire and a kitchen. This can be taken exclusively if required.
We recommend double-handed rods from 13 to 15 feet although single-handed rods can be used in low water conditions. A full range of lines and flies are required depending on water height and temperature. Chest waders are recommended although there are platforms to fish from in some places.
The season at Boen Gård runs from 1st June to 31st August. Fishing can be good at any time although please bear in mind this is a spate river so the fishing relies on rainfall. The closest airport is Kristiansand which is only a ten minute drive away, transfers can be arranged. We recommend this as a trip for families or small groups. Boen Gård is open all year round and apart from the fishing there are many things to enjoy, from the Michelin recommended kitchen to a nearby international standard golf course and the town of Kristiansand itself.
Rates vary so please contact us. Fishing packages are normally based on 2 or 3 days fishing with 3 nights half-board or full-board accommodation for a group of up to four fishers plus up to six non-fishers. Rod sharing is possible.
