Don Joaquín River Lodge is located in Esquina, Corrientes, on the banks of the Corriente River. As the Corriente River meets the Paraná River, a delta is formed, giving raise to the perfect environment for fly fishing for golden dorado. The scenery offered by Esquina, with a vast native flora and fauna, attracts many tourists throughout the year. Its rivers, delta and vegetation make up the ideal place for a visiting fisher with pacu, pira pita and surubi also regularly targeted. In addition the estancia offers riding and horse trekking holidays.
The vibrant green, yellow, orange and black found on golden dorado make them one of the most recognizable fish in the river. Along with their strong and acrobatic fight they are an addictive species to target. Their habitat requires a variety of techniques, lines densities and flies.
The lodge has a maximum capacity of sixteen people in eight en-suite fully air-conditioned bedrooms with private bathrooms. There is a spacious dining and living room area with a bar and a veranda with a majestic view of the river.
The ideal equipment is 9 foot 6, 7 or 8 weight rods with floating, intermediate and fast sinking lines. A selection of baitfish patterns and popper and a knottable wire leader completes the outfit.
Commercial flights go to Corrientes (CNQ), Parana (PRA) or SANTA FE (SFN), where a shuttle will be waiting for you and will drive you to the lodge. Domestic flights to and from Corrientes, Santa Fe and Parana operate more than once a day. First Class Overnight Buses with fully reclining sleeper seats are another option to get to the lodge. The bus leaves Buenos Aires bus station at 9 p.m. and arrives at Esquina at 5am and then it is a short ten minute drive to the lodge.
