Futa Lodge

Futaleufu is a Mapuche Indian word meaning Grand Waters—and it truly is

The Futaleufú River is a tailwater that begins in nearby Argentina but really gets its character when it enters Chile. Here this clear river cuts through the valley floor like a green ribbon, and on its banks beneath forested Andean peaks is the charming eight-guest/four-rod Futa Lodge. Several species of trout and the occasional salmon live in these emerald waters that teem with aquatic life and provide ample dry fly fishing opportunities. Futa Lodge is perfect for those who like a small lodge setting, excellent service and accommodations, and scenery of almost indescribable beauty.

Fishing

Sight fishing the eddies with dry flies for cruising rainbows, working the willow-lined banks where trout lie in wait for a passing meal, or throwing streamers at sunken trees for big browns is what floating the Futaleufú River is all about. At Futa, you enjoy incredible fishing fun!

Accommodation

Futa Lodge is a renovated Chilean farmhouse that has two bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. Three nearby cottages—two close to the river and one beside the house—allow for a private setting during your visit. As a Nervous Waters property, the quality here is assured.

Gear

Fast-action 9-foot fly rods in 6 and 7 wts. are preferred when fishing at the fjords. Weight forward floating lines as well as a shooting head line (Teeny 200 grain) and strong tippets are needed for streamer fishing in these waters. See Frontiers for more detailed information.

Trip Specifics

A 4- or 5-night lodge visit is perfect. A 9-day total trip is typical (Friday-Sunday) from USA to Santiago and back home. Access the lodge from Esquel, Argentina via commercial flight and 1.5 hour drive across the border. Overnights in Buenos Aires are required for trip logistics. Extend your stay by adding more fishing at nearby lodges or visit other destinations in Argentina or Chile. Contact us for additional travel ideas on how to extend your visit.

Rates

2024-25 Rates: $4,550 per person for 4-night/3-day visit; longer stays are possible. Single room and guide is 60% surcharge. Price does not include transfers in/out. Contact us for more details on all inclusions and exclusions.
