Located near the small cowboy town of DeBeque, a 40-minute drive to the Grand Junction Airport, the Ranch sits on nearly 400-square miles of deeded and permitted lands that have mountain forests, grasslands, a spring creek, and alpine mesas. This is perfect habitat for trophy elk, mule deer, black bears and mountain lions. There are also plenty of “dude ranch” activities perfect for the entire family. At The High Lonesome Ranch’s epicenter are the ranch headquarters and cookhouse with exceptional cuisine. Both log buildings are from an authentic, pioneer homestead.
Trophy elk and trophy mule deer tags are very difficult to obtain at The Ranch; call early if interested. Guests are asked to meet a minimum antler requirement of 325” class bulls, and there are cow elk tags available at a reasonable cost. Management mule deer tags are also available.
With a total guest capacity of about 60, there are a variety of multi-bedroom cabins, as well as the Castle Rock safari-style tent experience for up to 10 guests. Most hunters stay in one of the well-appointed outpost cabins. The High Ranch offers the most remote wilderness hunt experience.
Hunters are encouraged to bring their own weapons, such as rifle, muzzleloader or bow. Rifles are available to use at an additional fee. We recommend rifles capable of delivering 185 grain bullets out to 300 yards and archery hunters confident out to 60 yards. Practice, practice, practice!
Hunt itineraries run on a 6-night/5-day basis and can be designed to incorporate some of the many other available activities. For accompanying non-hunters, there are a multitude of equestrian adventures, hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, cooking classes, clay bird shooting, massage therapy and whitewater rafting. When the day’s hunt is over you’ll be treated to exquisite meals prepared by the Ranch’s chef. The Grand Junction Airport is close-by and well-serviced by United and other carriers.
2016 rates are not yet published, however, trophy elk hunts and trophy mule deer hunts run roughly around $10,000 plus resort service fees, applicable taxes and license fees.
