Bring a 6-wt. fly rod, along with rubber-soled wading boots (felt-soled boots are not allowed in New Zealand). In most cases, the lodge can provide all flies, leaders and any equipment needed. Quality raingear and polarized glasses are essential. Dress in layers; we suggest neutral colors.
Located in the Arahura Valley on the west side of the South Island, Kawhaka Lodge is bordered by the bush-clad Kawhaka Creek with an abundance of wildlife and views of the mountains. For non-fishers, the lodge is perfectly located near the Wilderness Cycle Trail, offers day trips to Franz Joseph and Fox Glaciers, Hokitika Gorge, Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and blowholes, Lake Brunner or an evening visits to the Glow Worms and Sunset Point. A 4N/3D based on the current rate of exchange starts at $1,635/person based on double occupancy/shared guide inclusive of accommodations, fishing guide, transfers between the lodge and Hokitika Airport or Greymouth, all meals, local wines and beer. Single rate is $3,275/person. Subject to change.
