Laxa a Asum is a charming river. It is short stretching only 14 km from a large lake in the mountains to the sea with a good flow and steep descent. This is a private river for just four rods to catch good numbers of salmon on a single-handed rod with a hitch fly. The river has a myriad of pools, pots and runs with distinct sections each with completely different characters. You might think the river short on space but that is not the case. There is plenty of fishing, so much so that it is hardly necessary to see the other rod all day if that is what is required.
What can one say about a two rod river that can produce over 1000 fish in a season? This river is intimate and very entertaining fishing and great for small flies and hitching. Easily fished with a single-hander, a switch if you must. Many lovely pools.
For two rods, or two rods sharing, the lodge is perfect. Four, good-sized, bedrooms well laid out, spacious and comfortable. One cannot see much of the river from the lodge but it has a nice view and is well placed to fish above and below or walk.
We recommend a single handed rod 6,7,8,9 wt, a switch or small double could also be used.
You will be very well looked after. Go hoping for a good year in which case the fishing will be superb but even an average year is wonderful. What is for certain is the fish will take the hitch on a light rod with gusto. Learn all the cool nooks too! Located in the north-west of Iceland, Laxa a Asum is only 5 mins from Asum airstrip and close to Blondous. Alternatively you can fly into Reykjavik airport by private jet, 3 hrs 20 mins away; or Keflavik airport, 4 hrs 20 mins away.
Every trip to Iceland is different with a varying number of days fishing, possibly in different areas staying in different lodges and with or without non-fishing extensions. Therefore, every trip is by quotation once planned based on your choices and preferences as well as choice of accommodation.
