Fishing at Makhangoa Community Camp is a yellowfish experience like no other. This is dry fly and sight fishing of the highest quality. Anglers have access to over 20km of the finest private yellowfishing waters available in Southern Africa. In addition, there is also the rare opportunity in Africa of being able to target both rainbow and brown trout in the same system. Guests will also experience the culture and natural beauty of the Lesotho Mountains and her people and each visitor to the lodge provides employment and revenue for the local community.
The Bokong River is gin clear and fishing is generally with dry flies or nymphs targeting particular fish. Yellow fish behave differently than trout and tend to be present in large numbers, cruising the pools of the river as they make their way upstream to spawn. This is very technical fishing!
There are four spacious twin bedded stone cottages built with local materials and overlooking the river valley. There are two bathrooms with both a bath and shower shared between the four rooms. In the middle of the camp is the large kitchen, dining and sitting room.
A 9 foot 4 weight rod paired with a floating line is the ideal rod for this trip. on booking you will be provided with a full kit list.
International guests should fly to Johannesburg, Bloemfontein or Durban and from there can self-drive to the lodge, or to Katse Lodge where transfers can be arranged to avoid the gravel road. Transfers can also be arranged from the airport. We can also recommend overnight stays to break the journey. The season is from 15 November to 10 March for yellowish and extends to 1st May for trout.
A 7 night stay, with 6 days guided fishing, is $4,230 per person, based on shared room and guide. Shorter and longer stays are available.
