The Pongolapoort Dam (Lake Jozini) is fed by the Pongola River and is South Africa's southernmost extent that tiger fish occur. There is a fairly short window of time that is ideal for flyfishing, with warm and clear water in autumn and spring. Lake Jozini has an incredibly strong and healthy biomass of tigers in the system and guests can expect to catch good numbers of varying size tigerfish from large schools of juveniles and males, right through to trophy fish well over 10lbs!
Tiger fish are super aggressive predators and at Pongola the large numbers of fish have allowed the guides plenty of opportunities to develop new techniques, including fishing with floating lines and surface flies. This is a well-run, exciting operation with a great guides and surrounded by wildlife
