Fine red stag, sika deer and luxury accommodations Down Under!

This remarkable 16,000-acre North Island sporting estate is home to some of the largest trophy red stag on the planet, and it also harbors a large population of the highly prized sika deer, plus rusa, sambar, tahr, chamois, fallow buck and more. The property has been a favored hunting and fishing area for both ancient Maori tribes and the English settlers starting in the late 1800s. Today, the trout fishing and hunting on Poronui Station are recognized as world-class complemented with excellent guiding, superb accommodations, an exceptional culinary team and a vast wine cellar!

Shooting

Big game season begins in late February and continues through the end of August. In March and April, the valleys echo with the daunting roar of the red stag. You'll discover diverse landscapes with spectacular views, ranging from high alpine forests to low open grasslands.

Accommodation

The main lodge and guest cabins have evolved from a once-rustic fishing camp into one of the world's finest big game hunting and fishing lodges. Accommodations combine a traditional lodge atmosphere with stylish elements of modern luxury. The Blake House is also an option for private groups.

Gear

Frontiers will provide a comprehensive gear list. It is important to dress in layers and to have sturdy and comfortable hiking boots, quality raingear and proper ear/eye protection. Hunters prefer quality camouflage. Poronui can provide quality rifles to guests.

Trip Specifics

Guests fly to Taupo, a short connection from Auckland. Normally a 4-day hunting package, shooters are taken out daily for their hunts on-property. To match the premier quality of the outdoor experience, Poronui's kitchen is renowned for its outstanding food and wine selection. The hunting can be combined with incredible trophy trout fly fishing and a myriad of activities for non-hunters, including guided hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and scenic tours to the wine region. To sportsmen, Poronui is a supreme lodge where they can fish and hunt in a hauntingly beautiful landscape.
