Poronui Lodge

World Class Fly Fishing with an Emphasis on Service & Personalized Experiences

Nestled in secluded Taharua Valley on New Zealand's spectacular North Island, Poronui is preferred by the world's most discerning fishermen, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts. This private, 16,000-acre cattle and sheep station offers excellent trout fishing on two incredible river systems and many other rivers accessible by 4WD and helicopter. Meet for meals in the main lodge and then relax in comfort by the fire. The lodge kitchen is renowned for its outstanding food and wine selection. World-class service and excellent guiding are also highlights of this Luxury Lodges of New Zealand property!

Fishing

Avid fly-fishermen from all corners of the globe come to Poronui to test their skills against New Zealand's notoriously large and wily brown and rainbow trout. Nearly all of the angling is sight-fishing, and emphasis is on the dry fly with a team of excellent full-time guides.

Accommodation

Choose from three authentic, world-class options: the legendary seven-cabin Poronui Lodge, the rustic-luxe Safari Camp, or the stately Blake House. Close to the main lodge, a modern sports and relaxation center called The Stables has a gym and health club facilities.

Gear

Bring a 6-wt. fly rod, along with rubber-soled wading boots (felt-soled boots are not allowed in New Zealand). The guides can provide all flies, leaders and any equipment needed. Quality raingear and polarized glasses are essential. Dress in layers; we suggest neutral colors.

Trip Specifics

Guests are met at the Taupo airport which is well-serviced from Auckland and transferred to the lodge. There is no set itinerary at Poronui, but we suggest a minimum 4-night/3-day stay for anglers. The Station is also ideal for non-fishers with horseback riding, numerous walks or fully guided heli-hiking, mountain biking, unique Maori cultural experiences, wine country tours or enjoying the health spa facilities located at the ranch. Further afield, there are 3 great golf courses; Wairakei and Kinloch are within 45 minutes accessible by car or Cape Kidnappers which is 20 minutes by helicopter.

Rates

Poronui's high season is December 7, 2024- March 21, 2025. 7N/6D inclusive fishing package is NZ$14,572.50 per person based on double occupancy/shared guide. Other packages and dates are quoted on request.
24/25: NZD $14,572.50
