In our world today, true "remoteness" is becoming harder and harder to find. Accessed by a scenic drive, then backcountry horseback ride and finally a jet boat excursion upriver to camp, The River of Dreams Program offered by Magic Waters Patagonia is the definition of a remote trout excursion in the very heart of the uncharted Chilean Andes.

Fishing

You drift and walk-and-wade cast to isolated rainbow and brown trout on 30 miles of the upper Blanco River, three secluded spring creeks, and five miles of the Bongo River. Mousing, streamers, attractors, and match the hatch fishing are all present and produce.

Accommodation

Six anglers occupy three double-occupancy insulated and heated WeatherPort tents on dry, elevated riverfront platforms. The camp boasts a main dining tent and shower/facility building with heat and hot water, and a grand fire pit is the social epicenter.

Gear

8 to 9-foot fly rods in 4 - 7 wt. are ideal. Weight forward floating lines for lite rods as well as a shooting head line (Teeny 200 grain +) and strong tippets are needed for streamer fishing in these waters. A comprehensive Frontiers pre-trip is available upon booking.

Trip Specifics

There is only satellite phone communication. There is no cell or Wi-Fi service. Coyhaique or main lodge overnight included on arrival and departure nights. This is a Saturday to Saturday program – four back country overnights, a two hour drive, two hour horseback ride and a one hour jet boat ride from civilization. Limited laundry is available. The seasons are late October to December and late February to April.

Rates

The rate for the 2024/2025 season is $7,500 per person for a seven-night excursion program based on shared wall-tent and fishing guide. There is a surcharge for a single tent and guide. This departure is not ideal for non-anglers. Contact Frontiers for more information.
