Royal Zambezi Lodge is a luxurious family owned lodge on the banks of the Lower Zambezi River in Zambia. It provides an unspoilt and unforgettable safari experience suitable for families or individual travellers. The fishing is exciting and often combined with the sight of elephants crossing the river or lions sleeping on the river bank. There are a variety of activities including vehicle safaris in the Lower Zambezi National Park, canoeing trips, river cruises, a spa and of course fishing for a variety of species.
The main species targeted are the tiger fish with September to November being the best time to visit. These aggressive predators take a fly freely and although the average size is around 4lbs it is not unusual to land a fish in the teens. Other species including Vundu and bream can be caught.
Accommodation includes canopied and thatched tents which are spread out along the river bank, nestled under mature trees. Each suite is completely private with a plunge pool, en-suite bathroom and a veranda overlooking the beautiful river.
9 ft single handed 8 or 9 weight rods are recommended along with a variety of densities of sinking lines. Rods are available for hire at the lodge. A complete list of gear including flies will be provided on the confirmation of your trip.
This is an easily accessible lodge with daily 30 min flights between Lusaka and their own tarred airstrip, a short drive away. A visa is required but can be obtained at passport control in Lusaka on arrival for most nationalities. The lodge offers three superb meals a day, a full stocked bar and has wi-fi throughout. Stays can be for any number of days and family suites are also available.
Rates are from $899 per person per night in high season (1st June to 30th November) or from $599 per person per night outside this period. Includes full board accommodation, bar, laundry and two privately guided activities per day, including fishing.
