Brian and Lizzie Niska and their superb team run Skeena Spey Riverside. They've undertaken a lengthy upgrade to the Lodge to offer fine accommodation and a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Lodge sits right on the Skeena River with its own dock just two minutes' walk from your cabin. The key to Skeena Spey is its location and staff who are all mad-keen fishers anxious to ensure your success. The Lodge has its own fleet of boats, most of which leave from the dock, but at times they will trailer guests to further away beats. At Skeena Spey, you will enjoy the best chance of mint fresh fish.
You could fish from Skeena Spey Lodge almost year-round if you are a hardcore steelheader ready to brave the cold for the freshest of fish. The Lodge can target spring steelhead, the huge mint Kings, the fresh autumn steelhead, and the silver salmon all departing from their dock right by the Lodge.
The Lodge has fine, spacious A-frame cabins with en suite bathrooms. Each cabin is set up for fishermen with hanging for waders, excellent heating, lots of space, and great bathrooms. The Lodge is warm and friendly with superb, enthusiastic staff. There is no doubt you will be well looked after.
Double-handed rods with multi-tip lines and quality reels with plenty of backing (over 400 yards for the Kings) is the standard equipment. Bring good quality waders and clothing for layering to cope with changeable weather. Bring a boat bag to keep your extra layers, cameras, fly boxes, etc.
It is a very easy journey to Skeena Spey Lodge via Vancouver and on to Terrace. There are a few flights per day. On arrival in Terrace, a member of the Lodge staff will meet you and drive you the 15 minutes to the Lodge where you can settle in and make some casts on Home Pool if you wish. The return journey is equally simple. Or, if you're going elsewhere, the hire car facility is just a few minutes away and Smithers, another steelhead gateway, is just three hours down the road.
