The Great Sailfishing Company

Enjoy amazing sailfishing while you stay with friends in a private villa

Great Sailfishing Company, operated by American and Guatemalan partners, is known for customer-focused service willing to meet and exceed expectations. They own and have access to offshore boats ranging from 28- to 38-ft. Bertrams and can fish up to 6 anglers per boat. The boats operate out of the new Marina Pez Vela and are staffed with crews experienced in the art of teasing, catching and releasing Pacific sailfish on both fly and conventional gear. Reputed as the most prolific fishing in the world for numbers, November-May can offer up shots at 20+ sailfish per day.

Fishing

Along with sailfish, blue marlin show up during the fall and spring while dorado and tuna appear more in the summer. The runs offshore, pending conditions and finding the productive bite, can be from 6 to 60 miles. The boats are equipped with fly and conventional gear, bait, lunch and drinks.

Accommodation

Guests can choose a 3 or 4-bedroom villa or a hotel room both located in a beach community minutes from the marina. The villas have a pool, personal chef, maid and waitress and the hotel rooms include meals, open bar in their restaurants and bars, swimming pools, and sports facilities.

Gear

Boats are equipped with Penn or Shimano reels and Shimano, Penn, Chaos, or Fenwick fishing rods (subject to change) and all the necessary bait and terminal tackle. Details regarding fly and spinning gear will be provided upon trip confirmation if you wish to bring your favorite rod.

Trip Specifics

Nonstop flights arrive in Guatemala City from Miami (2.5 hrs.), Houston and DFW (3 hrs.), Atlanta (3.5 hrs.) and Madrid. The lodge is located on the coast in Puerto San Jose, 90 minutes from the airport.

Depending on flight times, generally guests reach the lodge on their arrival day. Typically, after the last fishing day, guests return to overnight in Guatemala City and can thus book an early morning departure flight.

Passport must be valid for length of stay and have 1 blank page for entry stamp. Carry a copy of your passport at all times and store the original in a safe spot.
