The Rio Marie

Outstanding Liveaboard Program for Trophy Size Peacock Bass in Brazil

The Rio Marié fishery is located entirely within an extensive Indigenous Territory, an area of nearly five million acres! This pristine area covers roughly 500 miles of river, tributaries, and off channel lagoons. The season operates from August-February in western Brazil’s dry season. This system has the highest density of true giants in the Amazon. The liveaboard ship is a one-of-a-kind beauty. You’ll enjoy AC state rooms and chef prepared meals. Their custom-built skiffs were specially designed for these waters and for fly fishing with front/rear casting platforms.

Fishing

This headwaters fishery is more stable than other regional rivers and is the leading Amazon destination for those seeking true trophy-sized peacock bass. 12 fly anglers fish the river each week for a short three month season. If you want a chance at a 20+ pound peacock bass, look no further.

Accommodation

The Untamed Amazon is the very first liveaboard vessel of its kind. The ship has three levels. The main floor houses six double suites that offer private bathroom, AC, and plenty of storage space. The upper level offers a living/dining room and open lounge to relax and enjoy drinks/appetizers.

Gear

8 - 10 weight single handed rods are the norm. We suggest one 8 wt. rod with floating line and one 9 - 10 wt. with intermediate sinking line. Tropical and saltwater fly lines are necessary. Leader material should include 30 - 60 lb. fluorocarbon. Flies from 6 - 10 inches with 2 / 0 - 4 / 0 hooks.

Trip Specifics

There are daily flights from Miami, Panama, Lima, Sao Paulo, and Buenos Aires to Manaus. Plan to travel via Miami or Sao Paulo on Tuesday, to connect with the flight to Manaus. One hotel overnight is included on your arrival day. A floatplane will provide your transfer to the mothership from Manaus, landing directly at the vessel. A Native Indian fee of $670 per person will be paid in Manaus to your hosts. This is payable in cash (USD) and goes directly to the Indian Association Account and anglers will receive a receipt.

Rates

$7,325 per person, in double state rooms. Each guest is required to pay a $670 community fee to access the native Indian territory. This all-inclusive package covers everything but rods, reels, flies and tips. Single angler and non-angler rates are available.
