Ventosilla is one of the famous Spanish shoots and its reputation is rightly earned. Home to the first ever driven partridge shoot in Spain held in 1884, it does not get more traditional than this. The Palace was built in the 15th century by the wealthily and powerful cardinals of Toledo as their private hunting estate and their descendants still own and run the estate to this day. The estate has 60 drives covering many thousands of acres enabling guests to decide what type of birds and shooting they would like to experience.
A typical shooting day is made up of four to five drives which are broken up with a break for tapas and lunch. Each drive will last about 25 minutes and there will be plenty of action across the line. Ventosilla can offer some good high challenging bird or some more classical Spanish style shooting.
The Palace can accommodate up to 10 guns along with their non-shooting partners, in historic but tastefully modernised en-suite bedrooms. Each corridor of the Palace is decorated with numerous hunting trophies from around the world which have been carefully collected by the family over the years.
Neutral coloured shooting attire is required along with appropriate eye and ear protection. Quality footwear is suggested in the field. Evening wear is generally semi-formal. The estancia can provide the use of Over and Under's or Side by Side shotguns in either 28, 20 or 12 bores.
Guests are met in Madrid where a representative of Ventosilla will be on hand to assist you with your gun clearance if required. The journey from Madrid which typically takes one hour, takes you pasted the historic town of Toledo, a great place to visit for the non-shooting guests. On arrival at the Palace you will spend the rest of that afternoon getting settled. In the evening you can enjoy a drink by one of the numerous roaring fire, before you retire to the dining room for supper. The days shooting commence after breakfast, with guests returning to the Palace at the end of the day.
Driven partridge shoots begin in late September and continue to early March. Frontiers can organize days for private lines or individual guns. Price for a 2-day shoot: $13,160 per gun based on 600 birds per day to a line of 8 guns per the current rate of exchange.
