Wildwood Lodge, owned and operated by Simon and Cath Robertson for 20 years, offers lake-edge luxury lodging on 5 acres of magnificent landscaped gardens. There is exceptional trout fishing in the Rotorua area and on the more untouched and remote rivers and streams of the Central North Island. The region is also known for its geothermal activity, bubbling mud pools, geysers and thermal springs. It is also the ancestral home of the Arawa tribe and associated Maori cultural activities which are available to the visiting public.
Simon Robertson is one of New Zealand’s most respected and skilled fly fishing guides. His company, Rotorua Trout Safaris, handles all the guiding for Wildwood on more than 30 rivers in this region; guests are unlikely to encounter any other anglers. Fishing includes wild rainbows and browns.
Wildwood Lodge can comfortably accommodate 6 guests with 2 spacious suites in the main lodge and one suite in the adjacent guest house. Gourmet meals are served in the lodge dining room or on the large outdoor deck, and feature fresh seasonal produce complemented with a 1,000-bottle wine cellar.
Bring a 6-wt. fly rod and rubber-soled wading boots (felt-soled boots are not permitted). Quality raingear and polarized glasses are essential. Wear layers; we suggest neutral colors. The lodge has the best tackle room in NZ and can outfit sizes from ladies-S to mens-XXX in Simms and Sage gear.
The lodge is a short 15-minute drive from the Rotorua Airport, which is serviced with flights from Wellington and Auckland. There is no set itinerary, but we suggest a minimum 4-night/3-day stay for anglers. There is an endless supply of “non-fishing” activities around the immediate property, the local area and the greater Central North Island region; including the world famous Agrodome, Hangi (Maori feast), bungee jumps, horse treks, sky diving, river rafting and a luge. Rotorua has everything one would expect to find in New Zealand, with the exception of snow.
Wildwood Lodge operates over a long season with prime time from early October-April. The lodge is an excellent value! Based on the current rate of exchange, a 4-night/3-day inclusive fishing package starts at $2,858 per person based on double occupancy/shared guide. Other packages quoted on request.
