Ireland
The trout season generally runs from March 17 – September 30 on most rivers. Atlantic Salmon can be caught from January through October. Many stretches are controlled by angling clubs and private owners where permits are required.
Ireland has a wide variety of other activities to extend your stay in the country. The country's main attractions are its stunning coastal scenery, historical sites and ruins, fine theater, excellent golfing, fishing, horse racing, lush gardens, birdwatching (for puffins, terns and other northern sea birds) and legendary Irish pubs to share a pint of Guinness or Irish whiskey.
This lush green country is blessed with an abundance of rivers, lakes, and coastal waters. The country is spectacularly beautiful and there is tremendous fishing history, tradition and lore. In looking at Ireland, we generally recommend a few different regions for fishing. The West Coast between Galway and Sligo is very beautiful and is more oriented toward salmon and seatrout. In the southwest part of Ireland in County Kerry you have access to a number of fine trout streams and a couple of good Atlantic salmon pools plus numerous sightseeing opportunities, historical points of interest, quaint towns and memorable pubs. Another area just north of Waterford offers some of the best wild brown trout fishing in Europe in the heart of the beautiful Nire Valley.
