Astove Island Lodge

Perfect for adventure-seeking anglers; wild, remote, fabulous fly fishing

This small, uninhabited coral island is located 570 nautical miles SW of the main island of Mahe. Its shallow lagoon has one small entrance leading to the ocean that is surrounded by sheer drop-offs teeming with fish. Big GT’s rule the island but bonefish, permit, barracuda, milkfish, bluefin trevally and triggerfish are always ready to attack your fly. Bluewater fly fishing is measured in yards, not miles from the inlet. Yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, wahoo, sailfish and marlin will test the sturdiest of tackle. Astove Island-a remarkable fly fishing experience!

Fishing

Renowned as one of the premier GT fisheries in the world, guests wade the lagoon’s white sand flats, fish the channel leading to the ocean or give bluewater fly fishing a try. Access the various fishing spots by boat or by land via ATV. High quality wading boots are mandatory.

Accommodation

Located in the completely renovated coral house, the lodge has 6 single occupancy bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms providing standard amenities. The coral house lodge also features the dining room, bar and sitting area.

Gear

As a general rule, an 8- or 9-wt. outfit for bonefish and permit, 10-wt. for triggerfish and a 12-wt. for the GT’s and bluewater. A complete gear list will be sent upon confirmation of your trip. Frontiers can provide expert advice on finding the right gear for your trip.

Trip Specifics

Astove Island is accessed via the main island of Mahe by a 3 hour charter flight that departs Mahe by 9:00 a.m. Monday morning; this necessitates a Sunday arrival and overnight in Mahe. Most clients travel via Dubai to get to the Seychelles but other options are available.

The land based program caters to 6 anglers per week on a Monday-Monday schedule. Accommodations are single room but you share the guide with another angler.

Medical evacuation insurance is mandatory due to the remoteness of this destination.

Rates

Open 6 weeks in the fall during November and December and 8 weeks in the spring from February to April, the 7-night/6.5 day fishing package is $14,950 per person based on single occupancy and shared guide. The round-trip charter flight from Mahe is included in the package.
