Blue Horizon Fly Fishing Lodge

A completely renovated lodge located in one of the worlds finest Permit waters

Founded in 1997 by legendary guide Lincoln Westby, Blue Horizon Fly Fishing Lodge operates inside South Water Caye Marine Reserve, in an area known as “Permit Alley”. This region is regarded as the finest Permit fishing in the Caribbean. The rebuilt lodge is located on the same footprint as the original and positioned to maximize fishing on the flats during the best tides with the best guides during the best times of the day. There is no better place to fish for tailing Permit than Permit Alley.

Fishing

The South Water Caye Marine Reserve has numerous schools of Permit, Bonefish, and Tarpon. The nearby Meso-American Reef also has abundant Permit and Tarpon, as well as assorted reef species. Tarpon and Snook are present year-round in the Placencia lagoon.

Accommodation

The five guest cabanas have a max. capacity for 10 anglers. Each is completely refurbished and furnished with two full-size beds and a private bathroom and on-demand hot water showers. A/C is standard in all rooms. Rod racks, shelving, and hangers will help you organize your gear during your stay.

Gear

Bonefish: 7-8 wt rods. A 7 for calm days. An 8 for windy conditions. Permit: 8-10 wt. A 10 wt for Permit. For calm days an 8 or 9 wt is also suitable however, a 10 is the go-to for wind and the fight.?Tarpon: 10-12 wt. A 10 is a great choice for smaller tarpon. 11/12 wt for large tarpon.

Trip Specifics

Belize is a 2.5-hour flight from many US cities (Miami, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta). Guests clear customs and then board a 30-min Tropic Air flight to Placencia. Guests must arrive in BZE no later than 3:00 p.m. On departure day, international flights should be booked after 11 a.m. local Belize time. Once in Placencia, a lodge employee will transfer you to their sister property, The Placencia Resort & Marina. From there it’s a 20-min, 9-mile boat ride to the lodge. For U.S. citizens, a passport that is valid for 6 months after the last day of your trip is required.
