Angling is from privately accessed fisheries for wild brown trout, Atlantic salmon, and sea trout. Clonanav Fly Fishing is owned and operated by Andrew Ryan. Their guiding team are highly experienced and knowledgeable, enthusiastic teachers, passionate fishermen, and genuinely fun people to spend time with streamside.

Fishing

Clonanav offers access to over 25 miles of private water on 3 prime Irish rivers. The River Suir is renowned for native brown trout. The Nire, a clear freestone river from the Comeragh Mountains, and the limestone River Tar, similar to England’s chalk streams, provide remarkable dry fly fishing.

Accommodation

Hotel Minella, our top pick in Clonmel, is just 15 minutes from Clonanav Fly Shop. This Georgian Manor, built in 1863, offers 90 rooms, a bar, restaurant, indoor pool, gym, sauna, steam room, and tennis court. For a closer stay, an intimate B&B near the shop is also available.

Gear

For trout, a 9’ 5-weight is a great all-around rod with floating line. For the salmon, a 9’ single-handed rod with an 8-9-weight line is adequate for summer fishing. For larger water, a 12-14ft double handed rod with an 8-10-weight line is a great option. Some beats require wading.

Trip Specifics

The fishing season in Ireland runs March 17 – September 30. Guests typically fly to Dublin, but there are also direct flights to Shannon. Packages include accommodation, dinner, guiding, lodging, lunch, fishing permit, equipment hire (rod & waders) transport to and from the river. Ireland is also an outstanding destination to extend your stay. We can customize itineraries to compliment your fishing package with countless sightseeing opportunities, historical points of interest, hiking, garden tours, whiskey tasting, tee times and other outdoor pursuits.
