Located slightly south of the capital, Libreville, this is fishery where anglers use boats to explore a network of lagoons, channels and open ocean in pursuit of large tarpon and other species including jack, threadfin and snapper. The tarpon range from 40-200lbs and over. Part of the charm is staying in the small island town of Port Gentil. You will be based in a comfortable hotel and in the evening explore the town and eat in local restaurants which have excellent food. Fishing is boat based, from 21 foot custom skiffs, with two fishers per boat and up to six fishers per week.
This trip is based around targeting the legendary giant tarpon of West Africa. Finding and fishing to laid up tarpon is a highlight and you will also fish intermediate lines in areas fish are working. The days are based around tides and target areas so that you have the best chances of success.
Anglers stay in Port Gentil's Hotel Mandji which combines modern comfort with warm Gabonese hospitality. There is a restaurant and an infinity pool with sun loungers overlooking the ocean. Other facilities include high speed Wi-Fi and a relaxed bar and lounge.
