Waterfall Resorts, a 52-acre outpost, is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest on Prince of Wales Island’s rocky west coast - aka: "the Salmon Superhighway.” Here, nutrient-rich spring runoff meets ocean currents creating the ideal habitat for bait fish, which draw the epic runs of king and silver salmon, halibut, lingcod, and more than 20 other sport fish. They handle everything from lodging and floatplane reservations to fishing licenses. “Mooching” is their preferred style of saltwater fishing. This is an active style of fishing as opposed to trolling.
This is 100% saltwater fishing from customized boats. The unique feature employed here is called “mooching” for salmon. This is basically jigging for salmon. Keys to their success are their custom fleet and top-of-the-line gear, expert guides, the scale of the operation, and their storied location.
After a day of fishing, guests kick back into comfortably appointed rooms and cabins, executive-style suites, and ultra-spacious townhouses. All have ocean or forest views, in-room bathrooms, mini-fridges, coffee/tea makers, and Wi-Fi. They also include daily housekeeping and ice delivery.
Built for comfort and performance, their 27 cruisers feature suspension seats, heated cabins, private heads, twin Mercury outboards, and Furuno marine electronics. They supply all the fishing rods and foul weather gear including waterproof bibs, jackets, and boots.
Accessible only by air and sea, Waterfall Resort is located on Western Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska’s 1,100-island Alexander Archipelago near the famed Inside Passage. The Alaska port town, Ketchikan, is a 90-minute floatplane flight from Seattle that transports you to another world. At Waterfall Resort, not only do they share the coast with vast populations of fish, humpback whales, orcas, otters, crabs, starfish, murrelets, and puffins, but they also share their wooded acres with black bears, bald eagles, bats, minks, Sitka black-tailed deer, and more.
They offer 3, 4, and 5-day trips. 3-day trips start at $4,010 pp. and 5-day trips to $8,910 pp. Included are comfortable accommodations, 3 delicious meals. Only 4 guests to a boat with an expert guide and professional gear. They provide fishing overalls, jackets, and boots.
