Situated on 150 acres of private forest just 50 minutes from Nelson, Stonefly Lodge offers the complete package for international visitors who seek New Zealand fly fishing. With beautiful views and 5-star luxury accommodation on the banks of the Motueka River, Stonefly Lodge offers the world-class stay that you deserve while fly fishing and exploring Abel Tasman and the surrounding landscape of the region. Your hosts, John and Kate Kerr, have over 50 years combined tourism and hospitality experience and enjoy sharing their dream lodge with visitors.
Stonefly is ideally situated on the Motueka River banks, where guests have immediate access to some of the best fly fishing waters in NZ. Within a one-hour drive, anglers access dozens of quality fly fishing streams and rivers, stalking and sight-casting to big wild brown trout with awesome guides.
Stonefly is a member of the Luxury Lodges of NZ. Architecturally designed and engineered, the Lodge is built from natural stone and timber. It offers 4 guest rooms, all with spectacular views from private balconies which overlook the Motueka River and the Mt. Arthur Range in Kahurangi National Park.
Bring a 6-wt. fly rod, along with rubber-soled wading boots (felt-soled boots are not permitted in New Zealand). The lodge has a great SAGE & Simms rental program. Quality raingear and polarized glasses are essential. Dress in layers; we suggest neutral colors.
Guests fly to Nelson via commercial service from Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. It’s a pretty 50-minute drive to Stonefly. There is no set itinerary, but we suggest a minimum 4-night/3-day stay for anglers. There are a multitude of non-fishing activities from local wineries and hiking to sea kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park. The lodge is centered around entertainment and dining experiences. The Head Chef has extensive international experience and enjoys passing on some of his secrets to guests as they sit with a wine at the kitchen bench watching the evening meal develop.
Stonefly Lodge operates from early October-April. Based on the current rate of exchange, high season rates (mid-December-mid-March) for a 4-night/3-day inclusive fishing package start at $2,500 per person based on double-occupancy/shared guide. Other packages quoted on request.
