The Flókadalsá or Flóka as it is often called is a small but beautiful 3-rod fishing river in Flókadalur in Borgarfjörður, sandwiched between the Grimsa and Thvera - two of Iceland's most famous and productive rivers. It is about 1 hour and 15-minutes from Reykjavik. The river has not been available to international anglers for decades and this is a very special opportunity. The river is offered for up to three rods with the lodge which has a room per rod, a chef and one or two guides as requested. The river is offers 17 km of fishing for 3 rods, so there is plenty of space for three rods.
In recent years is has proced closer to 500 fish a year or about 2 fish per rod per day across the season which is excellent and hardly bettered on other rivers in Iceland. The worst year was 181 in 1981 and the best ever 937 in 2013. These catches have been achieved without catch and release.
The lodge has three rooms each with a bathroom so a room and bathroom for each rod. It will be upgraded for the 2026 season but there will be brand new rooms for the 2027 season. The lodge is equipped with a good living room, facilities for drying waders and a large terrace with a barbecue.
We suggest using light, single-handed rods for 5–7 weight floating lines and small, classic flies. The river is not large and therefore requires careful casting and stealth. Do not forget the "hitch" - because the Flókadalsá is made for it! Chest waders can probably be avoided if preferred.
Fishing hours on the Flokadalsa are normally from 8am until 1pm and then in the afternoon from 4pm to 9.30pm. Lunch is usually a buffet on return from the river around 1pm. Guests usually nap before going out fishing again. These are very long fishing hours – you do not have to fish all this time! The river is fished with just three rods that rotate offering the angler a vast variety in fishing, from fast moving streams in the canyon, down to the meadow pools where the river flows quietly. Most of the beats are easily accessible, with no trees to hinder casting. A whole river between friends!
Flokadalsa dates and prices ISK 3,672,480 - this is for all three rods and two guides. ISK 3,302,880 - this is for all three rods and one guide. The above prices do not include transfers to or from the river. We suggest renting a car.
