This stretch of the South Tyne runs alongside the Pennine Way and is only a stones throw from the newly refurbished Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsman's Rest and The Old Rectory. Whether you are looking for a family escape or a short fishing trip alone this destination has everything to offer. The Old Rectory is a bespoke B&B that can house the whole family or you have the Kirkstyle pub that can offer a comfortable short stay with its award winning food and service. On this stretch of river you can fish for Atlantic salmon and brown trout.
This beautiful stretch of the South Tyne offers double bank fishing for over 2km. This is a catch and release fishery with a maximum of 6 anglers and a minimum of 2. The water runs off the Pennines making it peaty, brown water but in warmer months it does clear.
You have two options here, The Kirkstyle Inn has up to 4 en-suite rooms, all are a good size and very comfortable. Alternatively if you are travelling with a group, The Old Rectory has 6 double rooms housing up to 12 people, it has a large dining/kitchen area, living room and 5 bathrooms.
Double-handed Spey rods are the norm (12’ - 14' is perfect) or a single-hander in low water. Floating and sink tip lines; flies range from largish tubes to summer level hair wings, depending on water temperature and conditions. Chest waders, warm layers and rain gear are advised.
