The Salmon River is known for world-class fishing and holds the Great Lakes record for Chinook and Coho Salmon. Anglers also pursue Atlantic salmon, steelhead, and trophy brown trout. The Douglaston Manor House, located in Pulaski, NY, offers access to 2.5 miles of private water on the lower Salmon River, famous for its prolific runs. Each fall, Chinook and Coho enter the Salmon River from Lake Ontario, peaking late September to mid-October. Steelhead follow in late October and stay through spring. Atlantic salmon spawn as early as July. Brown trout run from mid-September to mid-November.
King salmon are the Salmon River’s main attraction, often weighing over 10lbs and sometimes exceeding 30. The river holds the Great Lakes king salmon record at 47lbs, 13 oz. Coho, steelhead, and brown trout—often 8lbs or more—also provide exciting and challenging fishing opportunities for anglers.
The Manor House will host a maximum of 8 anglers per week, all in ensuite, single occupancy, king bedrooms. Few fishing lodges in the US can rival the history of the Douglaston Manor House on the Salmon River. Over the years, it has welcomed presidents and distinguished guests from across the globe.
The lodge provides all fly gear; guests bringing their own should pack fast-action 7–10 weight rods. Floating lines are primarily used, with sink tips also useful. Use 7–8 weight outfits for Steelhead/Browns, 9–10wts. for Salmon. Effective flies include egg patterns, leeches, nymphs, and streamers.
Anglers can drive to the Manor House or fly into Syracuse, NY (SYR), with a 45-minute transfer available. The season runs Sept. 15–Nov. 30, 2025, offering two weekly packages: 3N/2D (Sun–Wed) or 4N/3D (Wed–Sun). All fly-fishing gear—waders, rods, reels, flies—is provided. Meals are a highlight, starting with made-to-order breakfasts, riverside or in-house lunches, and evening cocktails followed by chef-prepared dinners paired with wines from the cellar.
