Epic tarpon fishing combined with the charm of the island paradise of Isla Holbox makes for an unforgettable experience. Certain destinations like Isla Holbox are perfect for non-fishing partners. You, the angler, pay the shared room / single boat rate and your non-fishing companion can join you at no cost! Invite another couple to join and the two anglers can share a boat while the non-anglers can enjoy the many activities on the island.
The island of Holbox has far escaped the spread of the mega hotels and glitzy resorts, which is so common in the Cancun and Riviera Maya region. Rather, it has for your enjoyment:
Fishing starts early as you leave the beach in front of the lodge at 6:00 a.m., return mid-afternoon around 2:30 p.m. While you’re fishing, your companion can do a host of activities including horseback riding in the surf, kayaking the lagoon, bird watching (Holbox has a large population of flamingos), snorkel or swim a blue hole cenote, parasailing, golf cart exploration of the island or just spend a lazy day on the beach. Schedule a day off from fishing and you both can swim with the whale sharks (in-season – mid-June to mid-September) or go to the mainland and tour the famous ruins of Chichen Itza.
