Muntjac are a bizarre looking deer that originate from China. The Muntjac were imported to Woburn Abbey by the Duke of Bedford in the 19th Century. Some of the population escaped, which is believed to be the source of the current UK population. They are now found across most of the Southeast of the UK and populations are slowly spreading north and west. Unlike most deer species, they don't have a fixed breeding period, so there is no closed season. The best time to hunt Muntjac is during the winter months when the cover has died off and they become more visible.
