Triggerfish are found in tropical waters around coral bommies, fingers or any coral structures. They are wonderful characterful fish that are so wildly unpredictable. One day you can land a fly on their head and they will crunch it, the next you land a cast 10 yards away and they are running to the hills. If you can work out their nature and find a happy fish, they quickly become the dirtiest fighter in the ocean. Once hooked they are going to make a mad dash for the nearest hole or drop off. If you let them go, then expect to only get half of your line back.

Fishing for triggerfish is done in the tropical waters around the Seychelles, Maldives and Christmas Island.
A 9ft 10 weight is your typical weapon of choice when taking on triggers. Your rod will need to be matched with a good quality large arbor saltwater reel. To fight a trigger you need to yield nothing and for that you need a strong rod. Give them an inch and they will take a mile.
Triggerfish flies are typically crab imitations tied on very strong hooks. Triggers have very strong jaws and can happily crunch a cheap hook.
